Are more men looking for vintage dress shirts?

Vintage dress shirts could be making an increasing appearance in the wardrobes of UK guys, thanks to the popularity of shows like Mad Men.

Sarah Woodhead, editor-in-chief and founder of QueensOfVintage.com, said: "Women and men are hankering after a more individual style and are tiring of the usual high street fodder."

Consumers who wish to combine the old with the new could also consider buying new men's shirts - which may be in better quality than those purchased second-hand - and team them with a vintage suit, in order to help them to stand out from the crowd.

Ms Woodhead explained that picking up retro bargains is a more ethical way of shopping as it allows clothes to be recycled.

However, she advised checking garments for signs of wear and tear, such as stains under the armpits or cigarette marks.

Mad Men is set in an advertising firm in 1960s New York.
