Wearing striking blue suits and blue cotton shirts is in fashion now, according to GQ - but they don't always have to match, just complement each other.
Traditionally speaking, fashion writers have always warned any discerning male away from the dreaded clash of clothing design.
After all, there is nothing worse than a mix of say, a check slim fit shirt and pin-stripe suit, creating a dress combo straight from the devil's wardrobe itself.
Yet GQ, ever eager to push the boundaries when it comes to men's tailoring, have shed new light on the subject by highlighting the benefits of clashing blue with…blue.
Using carefully selected combinations in their latest fashion shoot with actor Ewan McGregor, the magazine created what they define as a "good-looking chain reaction" of blue clothing combinations.
"Notice how the tie lifts the shirt, which picks up the pocket square, which is brightened by the hue of the jacket," they wrote.
With a variety of shirts available to balance nearly any outfit, blue is most certainly the colour for the smart casual man this January.
