Lumberjack men's shirts 'making a comeback'

16 Aug 2010

Men's shirts in a lumberjack style are on trend again, for the first time since the early 90s, according to one writer.

Nicola Copping, in an article for the Financial Times, said that as new action film The Expendables hits the cinema, the garments once worn by its 80s action hero stars are becoming popular again.

She suggests that when Bruce Willis' Die Hard character John McClane had finished defeating all the bad guys, he would most likely have thrown a checked shirt over his trademark white vest.

"No longer the domain of wood cutters, this shirt has flirted with fashion for years, but never as energetically as it has this season when the men's catwalk at Just Cavalli, Margaret Howell and Duckie Brown were full of them," she explained.

Willis stars in The Expendables, along with other action heroes such as Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren and Jason Statham.

In terms of the garments that their favourite stars would never be seen in, meanwhile, Statham recently claimed that he would be unwilling to wear button down collar shirts in a floral pattern if a part called for it.
