A growing number of fashion-conscious guys are wearing stylish mens shirts as part of a dapper suit ensemble, it has been suggested. Senior vice-president for American Express Business Insights Ed Jay believes that more males were exposed to luxury garments when prices started to tumble as the effects of the global economic recession started to wear off.
It seems that once they got a taste for sharp suits and classy accessories, there was no turning back. This was reflected at the recent New York Fashion Week, where some of the world's top designers showcased their autumn ranges, which included plenty of high-end three-piece suits and an extensive range of quality mens shirts.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Mr Jay stated that men are spoilt for choice when attempting to put together a fresh upmarket look and they are not afraid of paying for the best quality shirts. Analytics from IBM also indicated that there was an 8.2 per cent rise in sales of luxurious male clothing between 2010 and 2011 and this figure is expected to rise further in 2012.
"What we've seen coming out of the recession, you have new brands just for men," he told the news provider, before adding: "There's more for men to buy."
The demand for classic men's shirts is certainly not limited to the US though. Indeed, British guys are also more than happy to splash the cash when they know they are purchasing quality. A number of high-powered government figures such as culture secretary Jeremy Hunt attended London Fashion Week recently, which suggests that the event has taken on a more serious approach. This proved to be the case, as male models demonstrated the latest lines of smart suits.
Clearly, button down collar shirts are all the rage at the moment and men just cannot get enough of the sophisticated look.
