Mens shirts and waistcoats make great New Year’s combinations, says 10 magazine

Combining crease free shirts with elegant waistcoats is an easy way for men to create a smart and slim-line look for any New Year’s Eve outing, a writer at 10 magazine has claimed.

Speaking to the Independent Newspaper, executive fashion director Garth Spencer highlighted the benefits of wearing a shirt alongside a distinctive waistcoat on a night out.

Recent years have seen the popularity of sporting waistcoats emerge as something of a staple within the world of men’s fashion.

But while the practice may have its detractors, Mr Spencer is not one of them, noting that shirt and waistcoat combinations are “a great way of tailoring and still looking smart without wearing a jacket".

Jokingly, he added that waistcoats also offered the ideal companion piece for men during the calorific Christmas holiday season, with New Year bringing the usual mix of party-based buffet food and late night delivery options.

“They're great for keeping in the Christmas gut and give you room to move your arms for more eating,” he laughed.
