Slim fit shirts leave little room for iPhones

12 Jan 2012

The revelation that around 42 per cent of iPhones in the UK are being used with a broken screen is of little surprise given that few mens shirts can accommodate the apple device.

According to research conducted by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, a survey of iPhone owners found that around 51 per cent of users were also happy to use it as it still 'worked fine.'

When it comes to men, much of this choice may be down to a combination of style and financial savings.

For instance, the purchase of shirts with breast pockets may provide an easy place for iPhone storage, but it’s a look that can seriously disrupt an otherwise well-assembled outfit.

The iPhone itself leaves a clunky and disruptive lump on the chest, which could prove uncomfortable for anyone opting for slim fit shirts.

Worse still, with the size of the phone preventing any potential buttoning down of the pocket, users risk damaging it any time they want to bend down.

This leaves owners opting for the top pocket with a restricted field of movement closely resembling the tin man from the Wizard of Oz.

But while restricting style and movement are one thing, MyVoucherCodes.co.uk chairman Mark Pearson points to another major concern: the cost implications.

"As gadgets and technology have advanced, so have the price tags that come with them," he explained.

"Unfortunately, more expensive gadgets inevitably mean more expensive fixes when they are broken."

Forking out extra on iPhone replacements could see further spending elsewhere reigned in, with fashion options like quality shirts swapped for low cost alternatives that prove ill-fitting and ill-advised.

With iPhones providing the ultimate fashion accessory for the 21st century, the effect could very well be lost by choosing to downgrade your wardrobe.

A cracked screen could be avoided with use of trouser or jacket pockets along with a lot of due care, but in the event of damage, insuring your iPhone means you save money in the long run, that could then be put to better use.
