Tucking in men's shirts 'a style talking point'

3 Aug 2010

It may seem like a trivial issue but whether or not men's shirts should be tucked into the waist band of jeans or trousers is a "talking point" within the male fashion industry, according to one style writer.

While it may depend on whether guys are wearing casual short sleeve shirts with shorts or something more formal for the office, the Guardian's Alexis Petridis said that an un-tucked shirt can be seen in a number of different lights.

While he claimed that on one hand it had an air of the romantic in the style of Mr Darcy, on the other it was also a look favoured by "blokes you see smoking outside Yates's Wine Lodge".

But Mr Petridis concludes that in the "real world", to tuck or not to tuck in a shirt is hardly an area of importance.

In an earlier article, the writer claims that another area of debate among male fashion experts is whether guys should wear sandals, although he admitted that his bunion has always put him off such footwear in the past.
